Summary

If you would like to play on a friend's Xbox 360 console, or someone else's Xbox, but you'd like to use your own Xbox Live profile instead of having to play as a Guest or someone else, then this is the way to do it!

There are two documented ways of achieving this on the web. One of them will work perfectly, and the other may cause problems.

The correct way to do this is to copy your profile onto an Xbox 360 "Memory Unit", if it's not already on there, and simply take that with you and plug it into your friend's console. You will then be able to sign in to your own profile and gain achievements and everything else you would expect to do at home (assuming the other console is hooked up to the Internet as well).

As there is only ever one "active" copy of your profile, this solution works great because you are always carrying the one copy of your profile around. You will notice that you can only move the profile - you cannot copy it.

If you use the other method which is to recover your profile to your friend's console, according to Microsoft, this will transfer your licenses to your friend's console. When you then get home and recover your profile to your own console again, your console will be unable to transfer the licenses back again and you will begin to have problems. Your savegames, and other things, will then be at risk apparently.

So... while i don't know the specifics of recovering your profile each time you do this, I do know that the "correct" method works perfectly as I have used it several times.
